Larae Baker, Clinical Intern

Hi, my name is Larae!

I want to walk alongside you as you navigate life’s challenges, helping you build resilience, find healing, and embrace your strengths.

My services are extended to everyone, regardless of age; however, I have a special focus on helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of military life, career transitions, workplace dynamics, and caregiving for aging parents.

These challenges often result in feelings of overwhelm, imposter syndrome, intrusive thoughts, and lowered self-confidence - especially for women of color working in white- or male-dominated fields.

As a woman of color, military veteran, wife, mother, and caregiver, I know what being in a leadership position can feel like - especially in spaces where diversity is not the norm and marginalized communities can be excluded, overlooked, or not seen as leaders. Sometimes, the unfortunate effects of these experiences can leave you feeling like a 'fraud' despite years of training, education, skill development, and expertise.

Together, we’ll navigate life's challenges and develop tools to help you thrive in life, work, and beyond.

About Me

In addition to my studies, I enjoy running, gardening, and crafting. After 30 years of naval service, my exposure to diverse populations and traveling around the world prepared me to take the next big leap -graduate school.    I am currently enrolled at Howard University's Master of Social Work (MSW) program, completing my internship at Inner Coach Counseling, LLC, under the clinical supervision of Gena Golden, LCSW.

Benefits of Working With Larae!

Firstly, our graduate clinical interns spend years conducting intense research, studying, and developing their craft. Like any good therapist, they possess the following qualities: integrity, empathy, deep compassion, cultural humility, critical self-reflection, and the ability to humanize you and your experience.

Clinical Interns have completed a four-year degree and another two years of coursework in an accredited Master's Degree program, including an internship.

When working with a clinical intern, you get the best of both worlds because:

  • We are doubly supervised by both school and site supervisors, who monitor and provide feedback on our work. (Two for the price of one!).

  • We have a fresh perspective with our finger on the pulse of current trends, practices, and research in mental health.

  • We have more availability for therapy sessions and rarely have a waiting list.

  • Our fees are significantly lower than current market rates.

  • We have access to the latest developments in cultural awareness, cross-cultural barriers, and competent care.

  • Our short-term services enable us to work diligently to achieve results more quickly.

Low-Cost Therapy

Inner Coach Counseling believes it is our responsibility to make healthcare more accessible by providing therapeutic services at affordable rates.

While working toward completing my Master's degree program, I offer a below-market rate of $30 per session and $45 for family and couples therapy. Under some circumstances, I accept a limited number of pro bono slots through the equitable pricing plans.

Insurance

I am mostly self-pay (sliding scale and some pro bono slots) I can also accept Cigna Insurance.
